McFadden family papers, 1863-1982 [manuscript].

The collection is composed primarily of photographs with some papers relating to the social and business interests of the McFadden family (1905-1996). These include photographs of the W.R. McFadden and Charles L. McFadden families (represented in the family snapshots are W.R. and Hanna McFadden, Bryant and Weldon McFadden, Leilah and Charles L. McFadden, Mary Converse Hamilton and J. Curry Hamilton, and Shirley McFadden); photographs of the taxidermy shops of W.R. McFadden & Son Taxidermists and C.L. McFadden & Son, Taxidermists and Furriers, Denver, Colo.: store displays, storefront with employees, illustrations of fashions incorporating fur elements, fabric swatches, etc. (n.d.); views of a trip to California (n.d.); correspondence with Caroline Bancroft (1960-1982); newspaper clippings; travel brochures; Cole Junior High School (Denver, Colo.) newspaper (1929); St. Luke's Hospital (Denver, Colo.) newsletters (1971); slides of trips to Alaska, Mesa Verde (Colo.), Yucatan, and the Orient (n.d.).

Caroline Bancroft was born to a prominent Denver, Colo. pioneer family in 1900. During her lifetime, she was a socially connected bon vivant, journalist, prolific author and defacto historian whose Colo. history pamphlets helped popularize the state during the later half of the 20th century. Shirley McFadden was born Shirley Converse Hamilton in Denver, Colo. on September 23, 1916. She was a descendant of Colo. pioneers, Frederick and Sophia Converse who moved to Central City, Colo. in 1860 and ran a hotel in Black Hawk, Colo. Shirley Hamilton attend Cole Junior High School and graduated from Denver South High School (1934), St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing (1937), and also earned a BS degree in sociology from Colorado A and M.
